Hi, I’m Katherine, owner of Kaptured by Kat Photography, a Long Island-based Newborn & Family Photographer.
I’m often called the “Baby Whisperer,” and it’s a title that comes from the heart. With years of raising my own children and the experience of photographing over 1,000 newborns, I’ve developed a natural intuition for what each baby needs. I can usually sense exactly how to calm a fussy little one, using gentle techniques, professional swaddling and wrapping skills, and proven tricks to help them drift into peaceful sleep. My calm, patient presence helps create those serene, beautiful newborn images parents cherish forever.
A true artist at heart, I’m a self-taught photographer with a deep passion for creating meaningful, fine-art portraits. My creative journey began as a young child, painting alongside my grandfather. I’ve always had a strong artistic eye, but it wasn’t until the birth of my daughter that I fell in love with photography. After managing a busy wine shop on Long Island while raising my children, the gift of a camera opened a whole new world for me. I taught myself everything I could about the craft, turning a personal passion for documenting my family into a full-time career, capturing the beauty and emotion in the lives of my clients.
Today, I work full-time as a photographer because this is truly my calling. In addition to newborn and family sessions, I’m a Certified Reiki Practitioner, a homeschooling mom, and an active foster and volunteer with Northport Cat Rescue. These experiences bring extra calm, patience, and compassion into every session I do.
